Our Stakeholders and Partners
Building a resilient Caribbean through shared vision, collaboration, and sustainable action.
PISLM Dominica’s work is powered by partnerships — governments, development agencies, NGOs, and community leaders working hand in hand to advance sustainable land management across the region. Together, we’re shaping policies, restoring landscapes, and empowering people to build a sustainable future.
The Partnership Initiative for Sustainable Land Management (PISLM) thrives through collaboration. Our stakeholders represent the collective commitment of Caribbean nations and international agencies working toward a common goal — protecting our lands, watersheds, and communities from the growing threats of land degradation and climate change.
Through coordinated planning, policy alignment, and technical support, PISLM connects governments, research institutions, and community organizations to implement sustainable solutions that make a lasting impact.

The farmers are a vital part of every aspect of this project. Their participation in the various components has contributed tremendously to its continued success. In order to enhance food security, it is important to support farmers with resources, training, and technology to increase agricultural productivity, improve their livelihoods, and make agriculture more sustainable.
Additionally, policies and initiatives should be implemented to strengthen the resilience of the farming sector to various challenges, including climate change, market fluctuations, and pests and diseases.
Farmers are at the center of efforts to ensure food security. Their ability to produce enough food, both at the local and global levels, is critical to preventing food shortages and ensuring that people have access to safe, nutritious, and affordable food. Farmers are increasingly adopting sustainable farming practices that reduce the use of harmful chemicals, promote soil health, and conserve water resources. Sustainable agriculture is crucial for long-term food security by maintaining the productivity of the land.
Under the Sustainable Land Management in the Commonwealth of Dominica project, IICA and PISLM teamed up. Increasing the ability and effectiveness of farmers are among the project’s goals.

The Forestry, Wildlife, and Parks Division is one of the key stakeholders with a very instrumental role in the success of PISLM initiatives in Dominica and is a department within the Ministry of Environment, Rural Modernisation, Kalinago Upliftment, and Constituency Empowerment. They have played a pivotal role in working with the consultants involved in preparing the watershed management plans.
The ongoing restoration efforts through the reforestation project could only be successful thus far with the collaboration and cooperation of the Forestry and Wildlife Division’s staff. This department has been intimately involved in the implementation of the Sustainable Land Management project and the Strengthening of the resilience of agricultural lands and forests in Dominica in the Aftermath of Hurricane Maria Project.

The Inter-American Institute for Cooperation and Agriculture is a key partner to the success of PISLM initiatives in Dominica. The ICA has led several projects in collaboration with the Division of Agriculture which has positively impacted many farmers and other stakeholders. One of these is the integration of Sustainable Land Management (SLM) technologies in Agriculture.
One of the products of this initiative is the Manual of SLM Technologies for Agriculture. This manual is intended to be a guide for the implementation of standard soil and land management (SLM) technologies that address the identified limitations on farmlands. It is directed for use by technical officers and other trained personnel tasked with the planning, supervision, and implementation of SLM technologies within jurisdictions with similar conditions to Dominica.
