The Partnership Initiative for Sustainable Land Management (PISLM) is committed to turning national and regional environmental priorities into tangible, on-the-ground results. In Dominica, our projects embody this mission through a coordinated effort to restore degraded lands, strengthen community resilience, and promote sustainable agricultural practices that align with the country’s vision for climate-smart growth.
Each initiative is developed in close collaboration with government ministries, local communities, and regional partners, ensuring that every activity contributes meaningfully to national development and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). From hillside rehabilitation and forest restoration to water resource management and livelihood diversification, these projects are designed to build both ecological and social resilience.
Beyond the environmental outcomes, our work strengthens institutional frameworks, enhances local capacity, and empowers citizens to become stewards of their own landscapes. The Sustainable Land Management (SLM) Project in the Commonwealth of Dominica is designed to strengthen the nation’s capacity to plan, monitor, and adapt land management practices through a holistic “whole island” landscape approach.
Funded by the Global Environment Facility (GEF) and executed by the Partnership Initiative for Sustainable Land Management (PISLM), the project focuses on reducing the effects of land degradation and enhancing ecosystem services that support sustainable agriculture, watershed restoration, and climate resilience.
Our goal is to enable a national framework that balances productive land use with conservation, ensuring that Dominica’s natural resources are managed sustainably for future generations.
Following the devastating impacts of Hurricane Maria, this project was launched to restore degraded forest areas, rebuild ecosystem services, and strengthen community and institutional resilience across Dominica. Funded by the Global Environment Facility (GEF), the initiative focuses on re-establishing sustainable land-use systems and improving the productivity of agricultural lands surrounding the Morne Trois Pitons National Park.
Through collaborative action, training, and policy support, the project seeks to ensure that the people of Dominica can better withstand the effects of land degradation and climate change — transforming the nation’s recovery into a model of environmental sustainability.
